Big families are latest A-List must-have

Tana Ramsay excitedly ­announcing her pregnancy is the big showbiz news of the New Year. Soon Gordon will join the super-exclusive celebrity club or ­super-families, where membership only requires a big clan. Eddie Murphy, 57, was this week pictured with his 10 kids ranging from three weeks to 30. Mel Gibson, 62, has nine ­children. Angelina Jolie, 43, and Madonna, 60, each have six. Looking after three ones under the age of five has been such a breeze for Kim Kardashian, 38, she and Kanye, 41, are having a fourth. Abbey Clancy, 32, and footballer Peter Crouch, 37, are also expecting a fourth because “a hat-trick just won’t do”. Coleen and Wayne Rooney welcomed their fourth son two years ago, while Katie Price says she would like to add to her gaggle of five. So is a big brood the ultimate celebrity status symbol?

Jamie Oliver

Jamie, 43, and Jools, 44, have five children: Poppy, 16, Daisy, 15, Petal, nine, Buddy, eight, and two-year-old River. Jamie hired a night nurse when baby River came along. He said: “Sleep deprivation makes the most wonderful people just, unreasonable. “It’s really, really hard whether it’s your first or your fifth. It hit us hard this year, really hard, because you know we’ve got two teenagers and it’s teenagers things, and you’ve got a six and a seven-year-old as well, and they’re up as well, I mean it was hard this time round.” “For the first time ever I’ve got a night nurse.”

Angelina Jolie

Angelina, 43, hired one nanny each for each of her six children Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and ten-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Recently she fired her brother from the role as head nanny and hired two further nannies. Home life still sounds chaotic, with one former nanny saying: “In the middle of the night they’re running down the hallway waking their parents up and trying to get into
their beds.”

The Beckhams

David Beckham, 43, and wife Victoria, 44, who are worth £340million, have four kids, Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and seven-year-old daughter Harper. They are surrounded by security staff and drivers. Victoria said she had five members of staff including a nanny, housekeeper and a chef to help run her house smoothly.

Kim & Kanye

Kim Kardashian, 38, and Kanye West, 41, have an executive assistant, personal assistant, house assistant and two nannies to help look after their three children, North, five, Saint, three, and 11-month-old Chicago. They have another baby on the way via a surrogate.


Madonna is parent to Lourdes (22)  with Carlos Leon and to Rocco (19) with Guy Ritchie, and adopted David, Mercy (both 13), -year-old twin sisters  Estere and Stella from Malawi.

The Rooneys

Wayne, 33, and Coleen, 32, have an estimated £100million fortune and four sons, Kai, nine, Klay, five, Kit, two, and 11-month-old Cass. Coleen says: “People are shocked when they realised we don’t have a nanny. But we are lucky to have family to help out. "My mum and dad did everything for me and my brother and sister and I want the same for my kids.”

Katie Price

Katie, 40, has five children, Harvey, 16, Junior, 13, Princess, 11, Jett, five, and Bunny, four. She shares custody of Junior and Princess with ex-husband Peter Andre and care of Jett and Bunny with estranged husband Kieran Hayler. Nannies are a sore point with Katie as one allegedly had an affair with Kieran.
