160 feet under: Inside Jerusalem's underground cemetery city that will house 23,000 bodies as Israel's traditional graveyards run out of room

These fascinating photographs offer an insight into Jerusalem's new underground cemetery, complete with elevators, motorised carts and even a museum in a bid to alleviate Israel's grave yard crisis. Construction of the ambitious project at the Har Hamenuchot Cemetery by the Givat Shaul neighbourhood is near completion, with 8,000 burial spaces set to open this Autumn. The idea came about as the nation's plot shortage showed no sign of abating and a burial society acted on an idea it claimed to have been considering for the past 25 years. Putting a modern twist on a practice popular in ancient societies, the subterranean crypts feature intersecting tunnels that will accommodate 23,000 plots and boast a museum about burials.

Surgeons save man’s hand by sewing it to his GROIN – after it was sliced off by chop saw

***EXCLUSIVE*** A man's hand, cut off in a chop saw accident, has been miraculously reattached after being sewn onto his groin. Anthony Lelliott feared he would lose his hand after catching it in the revolving saw while cutting flooring. The 46-year-old from Walton-on-Thames, in Surrey, had an out-of-body experience when the hand was almost completely severed at the base of his palm and again just below his fingers. He lost a lot of blood and doesn‚Äôt remember much about his accident, which happened in May.  Anthony said: ‚ÄúI threw myself off the saw. I don‚Äôt know whether it was my brain playing tricks on me, but it was like an out-of-body experience; I could see myself and see what I‚Äôd done. There was blood spirting out everywhere. He was rushed to St George's Hospital in Tooting, southwest London, where he was recieved by a team of doctors. He said: ‚ÄúAll I remember was coming through the doors into A&E and being greeted by a phenomenal amount of people; I couldn‚Äôt count them.‚ÄĚ There, plastic surgeons managed to save his hand after seventeen hours of surgery. The grueling process required implanting veins taken from his foot and forearm and sewing his hand to his groin to replace missing skin. Called a a pedicled groin flap involves creating a flap of skin near the hip and grafting on the hand so the flap can take hold. Anthony's hand had to remain sewn to his front for two weeks.

Drug addict who had months to live makes incredible transformation after turning her life around following harrowing mugshot

***EXCLUSIVE*** A prolific female thief and drug addict is unrecognisable from her police mugshot and is now fighting crime - a year after being told she had just months to live. Caroline Best was a heroin and crack cocaine addict and has spent the last 15 years in and out of prison, due to shoplifting to fund her addiction. Only 12 months ago, the 36-year-old was told she had a year to live after her addiction was causing heart failure. Doctors said they could not operate on her until she came off drugs and she was given just 12 months to live. But PC Stuart Toogood, of West Midlands Police, reached out to Caroline last year in a bid to help her turn her life around. Caroline attended a rehab facility last August and following an intensive programme, she is now living in a dry house. Today (27/8) marked her 12-month anniversary off drugs and she looks completely unrecognisable from her police mugshot taken last August. An aspiring teacher has put her dreams on hold after developing a rare disorder which causes her to faint up to 30 times a day. Sarah Louhisalo, 22, has gone from being a fit and healthy young woman to requiring almost constant care from her partner and family. She was suffering from repeated headaches when she suddenly blacked-out at the wheel while driving in January this year. Within days she was passing out between 15 and 30 times a day and suffering seizures which left her unable to walk or talk for hours or even days afterwards. She has now been diagnosed with functional neurological disorder (FND), in which patients experience weakness, issues with movement and blackouts.
