"I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires. I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines," the singer announced on Instagram. "My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz."
The Australian actor had pledged $1 million to wildfire relief efforts. "As you're well aware, the brush fires in Australia have caused massive devastation [and] they continue to burn. There's warmer weather on its way [and] we're still in the thick of it here," Hemsworth said in an Instagram video. "There are plenty of challenging times ahead...and what we need is your support and your donations." Hemsworth also added, "My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too."
"Every time I've been to Australia I've fallen more and more in love with the people & wildlife. Please join me to help support relief efforts for the devastating effects of the Australian wildfires," the singer wrote to his followers on Instagram. "The @shawnfoundation & I are making donations to benefit the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund & two local organizations - the NSW Rural Fire Service and the South Australian Country Fire Service."
"The month of January in Australia has been my [home] for the past 15 years. Watching the fires destroy the lands, it's beautiful families and communities of animals is deeply [heartbreaking]," the tennis star tweeted. "I would like to begin my donation at 25K." She then asked fellow tennis player Novak Djokovic, "@DjokerNole, would you match my donation?"
Nine Australian NBA Players partnered with the National Basketball Players Association Foundation and the National Basketball Association to contribute $750,000 towards relief and recovery efforts. The athletes include Aron Baynes, Jonah Bolden, Ben Simmons, Ryan Broekhoff, Matthew Dellavedova, Dante Exum, Joe Ingles, Thon Maker and Patty Mills.
