This woman was told that 'women can't fly' by male colleagues when she started her career as a pilot - so she's now starting her own private charter company with women at the forefront

***EXCLUSIVE*** CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA: Commercial pilot, Christina Carmela Panebianco (29), from Cape Town, South Africa, has been fascinated with planes for as long as she can remember. Christina’s father owned several private planes throughout her youth. After finishing high school, Christina was hungry to take every flying lesson she could although attending flight school is a costly affair. After working in waitressing, sales, and bartending, Christina moved to India and began modelling and working in Bollywood. Within 15-months, she’d saved up enough money to attend South Africa’s best flight school and has now been flying for 11-years - but the journey’s been far from smooth. Many have mistaken Christina for a stewardess and one training captain told her that „women belong in the kitchen”. The insult that „women can’t fly” isn’t new to Christina either, but the criticism from some of her male colleagues only spurs her on. Now looking to set up her own private charter company, Beau Monde Aviation, Christina is taking control over her career. With less than five per cent of pilots being female, she hopes to use social media to inspire a new generation.
