Other than two ferries and a train between Italy and France, Agis travelled by foot the whole way. Along the way, he stayed in hotels and with friends or mutual acquaintances. The Greek activist ran the distance of a marathon for around 50 days in total, without any assistance, and finished his Herculean adventure in Glasgow. Agis has never been to the UK before but said he felt like Mel Gibson in Braveheart when he arrived.

The bakers used 300 eggs, 20kg of flour, 20kg of sugar, 20kg of butter, one pint of milk, 500g of vanilla and 20kg of ganache to create the cake which was filled with 7kg of buttercream. Alongside the cake, Stephanie also made small replica cakes of a giraffe, tiger, hippo and an alligator.

The 5ft bronze breech-loading gun is a rare, surviving relic of the ill-fated 1588 expedition where the Spanish failed spectacularly to invade Britain to depose Queen Elizabeth I. After a heavy defeat in the Battle of Gravelines, the Armada sailed around Scotland and Ireland into the North Atlantic on their return to Spain. However, severe storms caused a large number of vessels to be wrecked on the coasts of Ireland and Scotland. This weapon, which was salvaged from a wreck off the Irish coast, went under the hammer with auctioneers Charles Miller, of West London.

The birds were being fed by their mother when they started fighting, spreading their wings at each other in Bourne, Lincolnshire. Both wanted to feast on the mouse, but after their mum flew away, the larger kestrel devoured the rodent.  Nick Holland, a 57 year old director of a graphics design company based in Bristol, Somerset, sat in a hide 15 metres away watching the action from dawn until dusk.

The 62 year old said, "The otter was running towards me and in one of the photos it does look like it is levitating. I was watching the otter most of the morning until this happened then it was all over in seconds. The resident dog otter was chasing a youngster"
